Director: Strategy and Business Development

What will you be doing?

 

Reporting to the President, the Director of Strategy and Business Development serves as a strategic thought-partner in designing and executing on ELIXR’s business plan. You will be creating/managing strategic partnerships, fundraising, and defining the infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth over the next five to ten years.

 

Business Development

  • Independently develop a pipeline for ELIXR’s new and existing business opportunities with the potential to be long-term accounts, and drive the achievement of ELIXR's targets for the partnership.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to jointly plan and execute collateral, events, campaigns, and other assets and activities that create an opportunity for the partner and ELIXR to achieve partnership targets

  • Jointly created go-to-market / marketing plans with the partner, and driven the associated activities (i.e., events, collateral)

  • Established and nurture strong relationships with partner marketing and sales teams to ensure the organization is top of mind for the right partner-led opportunities.

  • Implement ELIXR’s network development including membership and MOU’s

 

Fundraising 

  • Work in liaison with the President to build, manage and sustain the relationships necessary to support achievement of fundraising goals.

  • Responsible for expanding and diversifying the organization's funder base through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.

  • Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals including identifying funds needed, preferred funding targets, and approaches.

  • Actively work with the ED and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants, donations, etc.

 

Finance and administration 

  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.

  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.

  • Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system.

 

Key Capabilities

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics, Business or a related degree, ideally with an MBA/CPA advanced degree. Equivalent financial and business management experience will be considered. 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, strong financial management skills, comfort with ambiguity, and excellent interpersonal skills with an entrepreneurial spirit and sense of humor

  • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills with great attention to detail

  • Ability to review and analyze complex contracts and familiarity with standard deal structures.

  • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships, across different levels of the organization and externally

  • Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, with consideration to budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.

  • Proven success in fundraising. Experience forge new donor relationships, running capital campaigns and success securing funds from multiple funding channels
